harrypozyckiHARRY S. POZYCKI, CHAIRMAN & FOUNDER

Harry Pozycki is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Citizens Campaign. He is a graduate of Brown University and holds a law degree from Fordham Law School. In 1973, he founded and managed a law firm specializing in planning and environmental law. He then served as the chairman of the committee that drafted and gained adoption of New Jersey’s Fair Housing Act. Together with David Frizell, he authored an encyclopedia of Land Use Law (1989), and is credited by Governor Thomas Kean for his leadership in developing and gaining passage of “The State Planning Act.” In 1998, Mr. Pozycki created a new model for civics education, which with the assistance of the University of Pennsylvania has been adopted by the New Jersey Department of Education. In 2005, he authored “The Citizens’ Manual: Paths to Power for Regular Citizens.”

Roy EppsDr. C. ROY EPPS, VICE CHAIRMAN
President, Civic League of New Brunswick

Dr. C. Roy Epps is a former member of the National Urban League’s Executive Directors Council and has served with the New Jersey Council of Urban Leagues, the League’s Eastern Regional Council of Executive Directors and the Urban League of Greater New Brunswick. His efforts led to the famous 1974 New Jersey State Supreme Court’s Mount Laurel decision requiring municipalities to provide their fair share of low and moderate income housing.  Dr. Epps is a current and founding member of the board of New Brunswick Tomorrow, a founder and former member of New Brunswick Development Corporation and a former President and board member of the New Brunswick Board of Education.

Former Finance Executive

David Golush is the Chief Financial Officer for The Citizens Campaign. Mr. Golush is a private investor and was an Executive with Salomon Brothers and Ranieri & Co. between 1972 and 2001. He serves as Treasurer of New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund and is a Director of the Franklin Bank in Austin, Texas. Mr. Golush is also the founder of the Golush Family Fund which promotes and supports innovative civic initiatives.

Stephen BalogSTEPHEN BALOG
Managing Partner, Cedar Creek Management

Steve Balog became the chief investment officer of the Beacon Trust investment management firm in 2010. Prior to this he was a founding partner of Cedar Creek Management, a private wealth management firm. For nearly twenty years Mr. Balog was a Wall Street research professional -- both as an analyst and as a research executive. He was recognized five times by Institutional Investor Magazine’s All-American Research poll for his work researching the electronics industry.   Mr. Balog has been quoted extensively and has lectured frequently about the research business, and has co-authored a case study on the management of research which was published by the Harvard Business School. Mr. Balog earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Bucknell University and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dean, Annenberg School of Communications, University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Michael Delli Carpini is the Walter H. Annenberg Dean of The Annenberg School for Communication. He served as the Director of the Public Policy Program for the Pew Charitable Trusts from 1999-2003. Dr. Delli Carpini is an acclaimed scholar of American politics, public opinion research and mass media. He has served as a member of the Graduate Faculty of Columbia University and the political science departments at Barnard College and Rutgers University. Dr. Delli Carpini has authored four books, most recently What Americans Know About Politics and Why It Matters (1996). He received his Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and his Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.

Doug ForresterDOUGLAS FORRESTER
CEO, Integrity Health, Inc.

Douglas R. Forrester is the Chairman & CEO of Integrity Health, a health benefits management company. Prior to Integrity Health, he founded Benecard Services, Inc. and Heartland Fidelity Insurance Co. Mr. Forrester has served as Consulting Director of Public Practice Issues for Aon/ASA Consulting and as a Senior Lecturer for Fels Center of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, Mr. Forrester has had a distinguished record of public service. He served in Governor Tom Kean’s administration as Assistant State Treasurer. Following this role, he served as New Jersey’s Director of Pensions from 1984 to 1990. Mr. Forrester also served on the township committee and as mayor of his home town of West Windsor. He was the Republican nominee in New Jersey for United States Senator in 2002 and Governor in 2005. Mr. Forrester graduated from Harvard University cum laude with a double concentration in Philosophy & Government and holds a M.Div. in Theology and Politics from Princeton Seminary. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Rising Tide Capital, a non-profit micro enterprise and development organization, and frequently lectures in public policy at a number of schools and universities.

Paul GaffneyPAUL GAFFNEY
President, Monmouth University

President Gaffney, a retired Navy Vice Admiral, became the seventh president of Monmouth University in 2003. He is a respected academic leader and proponent. President Gaffney was president of the National Defense University from 2000-2003. Prior to this he was the Chief of Naval Research with responsibility for science and technology investment, a substantial part of which supported basic research in American universities. President Gaffney is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, received a master’s degree in Ocean Engineering from Catholic University and completed an M.B.A. at Jacksonville University. He was also awarded honorary doctorates from several universities.

Rabbi Charles KroloffRABBI CHARLES A. KROLOFF
Past President, Central Conference of American Rabbis

Rabbi Charles Kroloff is Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Emanu-El of Westfield, the largest synagogue in the State of New Jersey. From 1990-94 Rabbi Kroloff was the Commissioner of the State of New Jersey’s Commission on Bioethics. He has held leadership positions in many social service and Judaic organizations, including the presidency of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, and Founding Vice president of the Interfaith Council for the Homeless. He authored When Elijah Knocks, A Religious Response to Homelessness, and 54 Ways You Can Help the Homeless. Rabbi Kroloff holds degrees from Yale University and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, where he is currently a Vice president.

MICHEL MARKS
Chairman Emeritus, NY Mercantile Exchange

Michel Marks served as Chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange from 1978 to 1987. Under his leadership, the Exchange grew from modest size to the fourth largest Mercantile Exchange in the world. In 1987, he was named Oil Man of the Year. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Petroleum Argue, Inc., Paris Foods Corps, and the British American Educational Foundation.

Mary O'MalleyMARY O'MALLEY
Vice President, Prudential Financial

Mary O’Malley is currently vice president, Environment and Sustainability at Prudential Financial. In this position she is responsible for directing and managing Prudential’s public involvement efforts. In addition, she leads Prudential’s Environmental Task Force. She has been with Prudential for more than 30 years and has held various positions in the corporate social responsibility, corporate, communications, issues management and human resources departments.   In addition, O’Malley serves as a board member of Leadership New Jersey; and Steering Committee Member, Global Leadership Network on Corporate Citizenship. Ms. O’Malley is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Massachusetts.

ROBERT SHINN
Citizens Campaign Camden County Chairman

Robert Shinn has 32 years of experience in the energy industry and six years in the venture capital arena. He was previously President of Exelon Capital Partners, the corporate venture capital business unit of the Exelon Corporation, where he was previously Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Shinn was Executive Director, Governor’s Energy Council in Harrisburg, PA where he served as Pennsylvania’s chief energy policy advisor to Governor Thornburgh. Mr. Shinn also has held other senior energy policy positions in state and federal government agencies, including Research Assistant in the Executive Office of the President. He served in the Navy and is currently very active in civic affairs. Mr. Shinn has both a bachelors and masters degree from Brown University.

Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens

Reverend DeForest "Buster" Soaries, Jr. is a Baptist minister, former state government leader, author and public advocate. He has been the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens since 1990. A proponent of faith-based community development, Soaries formed, through Church donations, several non-profit community development agencies. Rev. Soaries served as Secretary of State of New Jersey under then-Governor Christine Todd Whitman and is a former chairman of the federal Election Assistance Commission. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University, a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary.

CURTIS TAO
Corporate Attorney

Curtis Tao is currently Managing Director and Associate General Counsel for Citigroup, Inc. in New York City. From 2008 – 2011 he was corporate counsel for regulatory issues at Goldman Sachs. From 2005- 2008, he was with Citicorp as Senior Regulatory Counsel. Previously, he was with the law firm of Cleary Gottlieb. He received a J.D., cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Rutgers School of Law - Newark in 1999, where he was senior articles editor of the Rutgers Law Review. He received an undergraduate degree from Rutgers College in 1995. From 1999 to 2000, he served as law clerk to the Honorable John L. Coffey of the Seventh Circuit of the Federal Court of Appeals. From 2000 to 2001, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Deborah T. Poritz, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Mr. Tao is a member of the Bars in New York and New Jersey and is admitted to practice before the Federal District Court of New Jersey and the Federal Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Joan VerplanckJOAN VERPLANCK
Director of Business Development, G.S. Wilcox & Company

Joan Verplanck is the Director of Business Development at G.S. Wilcox & Company, a commercial real estate brokerage firm. She was formerly president of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, a 97-year-old Trenton-based business advocacy organization from 1995 - 2010. As the Chamber's first female president, Joan represented the business community on a wide range of critical issues, most notably those involving the port and education. Joan was instrumental in creating the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which was established to build a highly qualified workforce through innovative collaborations with K-12 education and the workforce training and preparation system. Joan ranked No. 58 on the 2007 PoliticsNJ Power List, which lists the state's 100 most influential people. She was named one of the state's ten most powerful women in business by the Star-Ledger in 2006 and 2002. In 2004, she was named by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of five "business power players." She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards.

Maria VizcarrondoMARIA VIZCARRONDO
Former Director, Newark Department of Family & Child Well Being

Maria Vizcarrondo was the first Director of the newly established department of Human and Family Services in Newark under Mayor Booker. Previously she was President and CEO of the United Way of Essex and West Hudson, making her the first woman to head a Metro I United Way raising 10 million dollars or more in New Jersey. In that capacity she established two major community initiatives, Project Leadership and Success By 6 that have received national recognition. Ms. Vizcarrondo previously served as the Surrogate of Essex County. Her election to this post on November 4, 1993, made her the first Latino to be elected to a countywide post in the history of Essex County government. From 1990 to 1993, Ms. Vizcarrondo was the founding Director of the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development at the Dept. of Community Affairs. Under her leadership, the Center became the central repository for data on Latinos and established the Latino Fellows Leadership Institute. Ms. Vizcarrondo holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University.
